A Local Walk Ends in Disaster.

We woke to pouring rain this morning and so our planned walk was in doubt. Over breakfast, however, the sun came out and began to burn off the mist. Everywhere we could hear the strident song of nightingales along with large numbers of cuckoos and green woodpeckers. Redstarts are also plentiful and we caught many tantalising glimpses of these wonderful birds, both common and black. We soon set off on a round walk from the villa. Again many orchids were found and carpets of wild cyclamen. The weather was brightening continually and we enjoyed excellent views of an eagle floating over the mountains; judging by its size, probably a golden.
As we were approaching Preci, disaster struck and poor Linda stumbled and fell causing a huge deep gash in her knee. Having applied some basic first aid with kitchen towel and a plastic bag we made it slowly to Preci. Peter then ran back to the villa to fetch the car and seek advice from Rob who explained where the an hospital was in Norcia only a few miles away. Linda was soon seen and the cut cleaned stitched and dressed. Six stitches, impressive and only a minimum amount of screaming! A tetanus injection was required but the usual target area of the posterior was refused in favour of the arm even though the Italian doctor was both young and handsome.
Once back at the villa it was time for a late lunch and then some more photography if Casale Cocchinella.
