The harbours and public beaches as every available location, and some not so available, is taken up with the most magnificent villas. There is some serious money here !!
In the afternoon we drove back down the lake to Cerro, a beautiful lakeside village with harbour and a ceramics museum. Ceramics was a substantial industry in this area many years ago but, unfortunately, the museum was closed so we shall return tomorrow. Our next port of call was the 13th century hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, reached only by boat or a steep path down the cliff side. It's position, built into the cliffs is spectacular. The church is beautiful and it was peaceful to sit in the cool listening to plainsong and admiring the many frescoes. The car park at the top of the cliffs is huge and the whole area mat be heaving in full season. May is a delightful time to be here - we nearly have it to ourselves. Mind that's a real advantage as the lakeside roads are narrow and twisting and it's good to have them quiet. I remember driving on similar roads around Lake Garda in August a few years ago; nightmare.
It has been warm again but during the day the cloud and haze have built up and we are wondering if there will be a thunderstorm. Is so hopefully it will clear the air and not change the weather. In the meantime it's beer o'clock once more.
